Glowing review of Paul Nordin’s cinematography work on feature film “Us”

30 May

“Interesting is Paul Nordin’s cinematography. On the one hand, dark and gritty but with a digital polish and crisp sharpness. The dichotomy between the clean visual texture and the subject matter creates a palpable uncomfortableness that allows for the emotional tapestry to come to the forefront. Similarly, the contrast in lighting after Margaret has had a particularly dark episode to then come out into the world the next day to harsh, overlit brightness, shocks the senses, making US a full sensory experience.”

EMB Studios produces whimsical video for UC Berkeley

12 Aug

On August 12, EMBS completed principal photography of a video we are creating for UC Berkeley to celebrate the unveiling of their newly refurbished Berkeley Memorial Stadium.  The video titled “Coming Home” will be featured during the pre-game show on the jumbotron for the Sept 1 opener of the 2012 Cal Bears football season.

Talented director Eriq Wities along with animator extraordinaire Aaron Huges have joined the project from NYC.  The story, being shot by cinematographer Paul Nordin, is a whimsical live-action/animated short following a Cal Alum’s journey from NYC to the Cal Stadium just in time for the game.

Paul has chosen to shoot the animated segments on a Canon 5D with Dragonforce software tailored to this style of animation, and our Epic kit for the live-action segments.
